There’s nothing I dread more than updating this feature on our website. It means that we have lost a beloved member of our Pet Appeal family.

This loss hits me especially hard because it was my sweet Godiva that crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. We can’t help but get attached to those wonderful pets that we care for but some touch our hearts a little deeper and Godiva was one of those for me.

Godiva was a shepherd mix that lived a wonderful dog’s life. She protected her lakefront property with not a territorial purpose but one of a welcoming, gracious hostess. She greeted every guest with a twinkle in her deep brown eyes and a gently wagging tail. She “chirped” with delight at the thought of meeting a new friend or getting to spend time with an old one. Her always gentle heart oozed love for her large kitty family and all creatures that ventured into her home.

As the tears fall upon my keyboard as I write this I can’t help but remember what I friend said to me, how unbelievably lucky we are as pet sitters to make a living where we can experience such pure emotion. We get to experience unconditional love every day from our “Sweet Godivas”. This love makes the losses even harder to bear but what a blessing to have had the love in the first place. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

So my sweet girl, rest peacefully knowing that you were loved more than you probably realized and that I will never take for granted the love you showed me. I will forever miss you and always treasure our time together. My world was a brighter place because of you. Thank You!
